History
Borsani Angelo was founded in 1914 by "Grandpa Angelo" himself, an exceptional man, capable of playing a fugue by Bach on the church organ and of modelling excellent wrought iron work with the same hands.With limited means, but great experience in iron working, he starts producing small quantities of padlocks and screws for cupboards.
The hard years of the First World War soon arrive. Angelo Borsani is left alone, awaiting the return from the front of his 18-year old son, Gildo.
Ermengildo collaborates with his father. In just a few years his extraordinary intuition and geniality enable him to transform the little craft workshop into a company which, through the use of new technologies and equipment designed by himself, is able to extend its range of articles and enter the vast field of ironmongery for furniture.
Borsani becomes the first Italian company to produce brass-edged hinges, which had up until then been imported from Germany.
At war again! The Second World War. There's a shortage of raw materials, the men are called to arms. Difficult years.
Then it's back to work. The United States help us update our technologies.
Gildo's sons, Giancarlo and Giuseppe, enter the company. Giancarlo, an engineer, dedicates himself to the optimization of the production processes and the design of new articles, aided by an inborn geniality.
Giuseppe puts his business studies at the disposal of the company, dedicating himself to the increasingly difficult task of the administration and accountancy of the company.
Giancarlo creates and patents new products which, after overcoming the diffident phase of the markets for new products, are appreciated and requested all over the world.
By now the company has made itself known: 70% of its production is exported.
HISTORY OF A PRODUCT
1955 saw the birth of art. 180: a mechanism which enables the opening and closure of a cupboard door by simply pressing from outside.
In 1967 Giancarlo designed and produced a spring hinge which can be applied inside the cupboard without the need for embedding, and this became one of the most widely imitated and manufactured pieces in the world, with different forms but the same operating concept. It's the EASY-ON hinge which will make a history of its own.
1972 saw the birth of art. 188, which possesses the same functions as the "old" art. 180, but its design, reduced dimensions and attractive appearance enable it to find a wider range of applications.Today the company has reached the fourth generation, and has resorted to automation as the only means of keeping down its costs. Unfortunately, Giuseppe's premature death has left a void which will be difficult to fill, but our sons Alberto, Angelo and Alessandro, will attempt to do so with their diligence, enthusiasm and that pride in tradition of a company founded over eighty years ago and which, despite its modest dimensions, has made a name for itself throughout the world.
